In the city-centre of Worms one can find the oldest still existing Jewish cemetery in Europe, the cemetery „Heiliger Sand“. Students of the departments of computer science and tourism / travel management at the University of Applied Sciences Worms developed a mobile application for this significant historical and cultural monument and thus for a place that is also very interesting for tourists.

In two interdisciplinary teams the application has been developed from concept to implementation within one semester. For the students of the department tourism / travel management, the main task was conceptual development of the app, target group analysis, research of content, and creation of narratives for transferring information about the cemetery. The technical design, visual design, and programmatic implementation has mainly been done by students of the department for computer science.

The developed concept for use of mobile communication technologies in destination marketing can also be transferred and applied to other use cases such as cultural / industrial monuments, museums, cultural tourism and brand communication.
