Health Insurance
We will send you detailed information about the German health insurance system, the EHIC, and private insurances before you enroll.
Mandatory Health Insurance in Germany
By law, every resident in Germany must have health insurance ("Versicherungspflicht"). This rule also applies to you as an international student.
Do you need a visa to enter Germany? Please check the exact health insurance requirements for your visa application early.
Enrollment and "Meldung 10" (M10)
You need valid health insurance to enroll at our university. Your insurance must cover the entire semester:
- Winter semester: September 1 to February 28 or 29
- Summer semester: March 1 to August 31
To enroll you, we need an electronic notification called "Meldung 10" (M10). A German public health insurance provider sends this digital confirmation directly to us. It proves that you have sufficient insurance coverage. We do not accept physical documents for this process.
German Public Health Insurance
Public health insurance for students costs about 120 euros per month. The prices and services of the different providers are very similar. Still, please compare the details to find the right provider for you.
Are you older than 30? Then you cannot get the standard public student insurance. You must choose either a voluntary public insurance ("freiwillige Versicherung") or a private health insurance.
Important Contract Details
Some blocked account providers and international private insurance companies cooperate with German public insurance providers. Please always check your contract carefully to see exactly which insurance company covers you.
