General Admission Requirements

Access to university studies is regulated by law. According to the Higher Education Act of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, you need a so-called university entrance qualification to be able to take up a bachelor's or master's degree programme. If necessary, further admission requirements have to be fulfilled, which we would like to inform you about in the further course.

University Entrance Qualification

Anyone interested in a bachelor's or master's degree programme needs either the general university entrance qualification, the university of applied sciences entrance qualification or the subject-specific university entrance qualification as a university entrance qualification. Alternatively, access to a bachelor's degree program is also possible through the so-called professional qualification. What this means exactly is explained below:

  • General University Entrance Qualification

The general higher education entrance qualification qualifies the holder to study at universities of applied sciences and universities.

  • Subject-specific University Entrance Qualification

In conjunction with verification of relevant prior practical training (pre-study internship), it grants you the right to study at the department/degree program that corresponds to the subject or the subjects that can be studied at a university according to the certificate.

  • University of Applied Sciences Entrance Qualification

The university of applied sciences entrance qualification (theoretical part + prior practical training; usually a completed apprenticeship) entitles you to study any discipline at Worms University of Applied Sciences. Applicants who have prior practical training that does not correspond to their desired field of study must also have relevant practical training, which may vary in time based on the requirements of the individual departments. Admission qualification that is the equivalent to the university of applied sciences entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife): acquired at a German high school (Gynasium), institute (Kolleg) or night school (Abendgymnasium).

  • German school-based entrance qualification for dual study programmes

Are you interested in a dual study programme? Thanks to a special regulation, if you have a german school-based higher education entrance qualification, you also have the opportunity to apply and be admitted. Please feel free to contact us to find out whether this regulation also applies to you!

    § 25 (3) StPVLVO

In cases where, in addition to the school-leaving certificate, successful completion of a practical training programme is required to obtain a higher education entrance qualification, the application for admission to dual study programmes is admissible if the school-based part of the higher education entrance qualification is available (§ 20 para. 3 sentence 5 HochSchG).

  • Foreign Higher Education Entrance Qualifications (uniassist)

Eligibility to study is determined by the resolutions of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs. Your certificates will first be pre-checked by uni-assist. The pre-check document must be submitted to us as part of your application.
A decision will then be made as to whether your university entrance qualification corresponds to a German qualification and whether direct admission to a degree programme is possible.

If this is not the case, you must first take the assessment test at a preparatory college. Information on this can be obtained from the relevant Studienkolleg in Kaiserslautern.

You have the option of contacting the Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst/ DAAD in advance, stating your country of origin or the country in which you took your Abitur, to find out whether you have direct access to higher education or not.

  • Admission of Vocationally Qualified Applicants to Study at Worms UAS

Since the summer semester of 1997, qualified professionals without a university of applied sciences entrance qualification can apply for admission at Worms University of Applied Sciences. The prerequisites are as follows: Completed vocational training with an average grade of at least 2.5 (examination certificate + vocational school leaving certificate) / 2). You can find further information on the Information sheet for vocationally qualified applicants (only available in German).

  • Vocational college II - University of Applied Sciences Entrance Qualification BaWü

To acquire the university of applied sciences entrance qualification in Rhineland Palatinate, you will need, in addition to your university of applied sciences entrance qualification certificate of the vocational college Baden-Württemberg, completed vocational training outside the vocational college or additional classes and an additional examination (assistant training) as well as proof of a relevant six-month job / internship (full-time) following the vocational college.

Further subject-specific admission requirements

Some degree programs have subject-specific entry requirements in addition to the general entry requirements listed on this page: For example, you may be required to have knowledge of a foreign language at a certain level, an internship, or to answer a questionnaire. If you are interested in a dual study programme, a completed training or internship contract with a cooperating company of UAS Worms is usually an admission requirement.

Listing all the admission requirements for each degree programme would go beyond the scope of this website. When you look at our range of courses, simply check whether there are any further subject-specific entry requirements in addition to the general entry requirements mentioned above.
