E-business & Cloud Computing
Prof. Dr Thomas Barton’s research project on e-business and cloud computing comprises several completed sub-projects on the practical application of cloud technologies.
The planning and deployment of a private cloud based on the open-source cloud management software OpenStack were carried out as a case study. External applications can also be developed on this platform by using RESTful APIs as interfaces. As an example application, a user management app was created; the use of RESTful APIs was examined in particular.
The “Business Process as a Service (BPaaS)” sub-project investigated the further development of cloud applications beyond Software as a Service. Based on an analysis of the state of the art in the field of BPaaS at that time, the use of RESTful APIs was examined. The partner for this sub-project was Prof. Dr Christian Seel (Landshut University of Applied Sciences).
The focus was on an application that allows travellers to publish an online travel diary as a travel blog and share it with members of a community. It was based on a cloud-based service that, via a REST API, enabled the publication and management of an online travel diary through various service consumers. The focus was on a travel blogging app, which was developed as a hybrid app for Android and iOS.
The event focused on current issues relating to the status and use of cloud-based applications in businesses and organisations. Further information can be found on the Rhineland-Palatinate Research Portal.
A book on this subject has been published by Prof. Dr Thomas Barton: E-Business with Cloud Computing – Fundamentals, Practical Applications, Clear Solutions (Springer, also available as an e-book).
