In Germany, the academic year consists of a winter semester and a summer semester.

Summer Semester

• The semester begins on 1 March
• Lectures begin in mid-March
• Lectures and exams finish in mid-July
• The semester ends on 31 August

Winter Semester

• The semester begins on 1 September
• Classes begin in late September or early October
• Classes and exams end in late January or early February
• The semester ends on 28 or 29 February

The International Centre organises welcome and orientation events before classes start.

Once the lecture period has ended, you will have a few weeks left in the semester. You can use this time to complete assignments or sit exams.
