Visas and Residence Permits
Depending on your nationality, you will need a visa and a residence permit to study in Germany. Please apply for your visa as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance. The process often takes a long time.
Please check the exact requirements at the German embassy or consulate in your home country. Some nationalities are required to have a blocked account (“Sperrkonto”). Currently, you must deposit 992 euros into this account for every month of your stay.
EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland
You do not need a visa to enter Germany. Please ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your stay. Renew it in good time if necessary.
Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, South Korea and the USA
You can enter Germany without a visa. After your arrival, you must apply for a residence permit at your local immigration office (“Ausländerbehörde”). If you live in Worms, you should register at the office in Worms. If you live in another city, you should register there.
However, we recommend applying for a long-term visa before you travel to Germany. You can do this at the German embassy or consulate in your home country. We will send you the necessary application form together with your letter of acceptance.
