Business Administration with a focus on aviation

On the English-taught Bachelor’s degree programme in Aviation Management, you will gain an understanding of the economic aspects of air transport and prepare for roles with airlines, airports, air traffic control organisations and other companies in the sector.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • A small, international environment: You’ll study in small groups in English, the language of the aviation industry.
  • Work placements and practical semesters: You’ll gain early insights into companies and apply what you’ve learnt during your studies.
  • Choices: You can choose from a wide range of compulsory elective modules or spend a semester at one of our partner universities abroad.

Industry contacts that will help you advance your career

Through corporate partnerships, guest lectures, and field trips, you’ll build connections with industry professionals while you’re still in school.

Your career opportunities

A Bachelor of Arts degree qualifies you to start your career or allows you to continue your studies on a Master’s programme.

Depending on your interests and strengths, you can work in various fields, such as network management, human resources, financial control or marketing.

Potential employers in the aviation industry

  • Airlines
  • Air freight companies
  • Airports
  • Air traffic control organisations
  • Ground handling providers
  • Aircraft manufacturers
  • Associations and organisations in the aviation industry
  • Upstream and downstream service providers

As the degree programme provides a broad foundation in business administration, opportunities are also available in companies across other sectors.

Yield Manager

Yield management is all about calculating ticket prices correctly. You analyse demand, competition and booking behaviour, and set prices based on this analysis. Every decision affects the load factor and revenue of a route.

In doing so, you work closely with Revenue Management, Marketing and Sales, utilising modern analytical tools.

Airport Manager

As an Airport Manager, you oversee a complex operation. You coordinate airlines, ground handling services, security authorities and passengers, manage staff and organise processes. In this way, you ensure that the airport runs efficiently and without disruption.

To do this, you’ll need strong organisational skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to keep a clear head even in stressful situations.

Aviation Consultant

As an aviation consultant, you will support companies in the aviation industry with key decision-making. Your projects will range from market and competitive analyses to the optimisation of processes and the development of new business models, for example for airlines, airports or suppliers.

Anyone who thinks analytically, recognises economic interrelationships and can explain complex topics in an accessible way is well suited to this role.

Route Network Planner

As a Route Network Planner, you will open new routes or optimise existing ones. You will analyse potential demand, monitor competitors’ offerings and assess the economic framework. In this way, you will shape an airline’s route network and ensure its competitiveness.

If you’re quick to spot connections, enjoy working with data and have a business-minded approach, you’ll be well-suited to this role.

Airline Marketing Manager

In this role, you will develop strategies that clearly position an airline in the market. Through digital campaigns, market research and creative concepts, you will attract new customers and retain existing ones.

Creativity, strong communication skills and a good understanding of customers are an advantage for this role.

Course content

The programme is divided into four areas that combine theory, practical experience and individual specialisations.

The programme begins with the General Management modules. Here, you will learn the fundamentals of business administration, methodologies and key skills. This broad foundation also opens up career opportunities outside the aviation industry.

The Aviation Management modules introduce you to the world of aviation. You will explore topics such as aviation law, sustainability, airport and airline management, logistics, digitalisation and tourism. At the end of the programme, you will apply everything you have learnt in a business simulation and make real-world decisions as part of a team.

In the ‘Management in Practice’ modules, you will gain practical professional experience. You will then present your experiences to the group and discuss them together. In this way, everyone benefits from the wealth of experience shared by others. In the dual-study programme in Aviation Management, you will complete the ‘Management in Practice’ modules at your industry partner’s premises.

In the compulsory elective area, you’ll choose from a changing range of modules, such as ‘Introduction to Air Traffic Management’ or ‘Professional Airport Management’. This allows you to set your own areas of specialisation. You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake a supervised semester abroad.

The programme culminates in a Bachelor’s thesis, in which you will integrate content from General Management and Aviation Management.
