Supportive guidance
People in need of care are those who, due to illness or disability, require help and support for at least six months. Depending on the care level, the care insurance fund provides various support services. Applications for both the assessment of the need for care and the care level are made to the care insurance fund.
Unfortunately, care is difficult to plan and often places an increasing burden on relatives. It places a heavy mental and physical strain on carers, particularly those who are in work or studying. We have compiled a list of key points of contact and advice services for you here:
- On the website of the Federal Ministry of Health, you will find important information on the subject of care, including the PDF guide ‘Care’; you can also obtain information about care insurance by calling the citizens’ helpline.
- You can read about the benefits provided by statutory long-term care insurance here.
- The ‘Wege zur Pflege’ (Pathways to Care) information page from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth offers various advisory services as well as information on the free care helpline and the Care Charter, amongst other things.
- The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth has also set up a service portal on the topic of ‘Living at Home in Old Age’, which offers a wealth of useful information on ‘living at home for longer’.
- Family carers and relatives can also find free and anonymous online psychological counselling here.
- Specific information on dementia can be found on the ‘Wegweiser Demenz’ website, in the ‘Ratgeber Demenz’ guide and from the German Alzheimer’s Association (Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft e.V.).
- Further important support services, as well as the City of Worms’ Specialist Unit for Older People and Inclusion, can be found here.
- The Federal Office for Family Affairs and Civil Society offers the option of an interest-free loan.
Students who are
carers can also find specific information here. The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) has also compiled a concise summary of key information for students who are carers. You can find the PDF here.
Only with a lasting power of attorney is it possible to act in a legally valid manner. It is important to make provisions for emergencies in order to avoid the need for statutory guardianship. The Guardianship Association at Diakonisches Werk Worms-Alzey e.V. offers free advice on lasting powers of attorney, guardianship and advance healthcare directives.
The City of Worms has published a ‘preparedness folder’ as a PDF, designed to help ensure that all important documents and personal instructions are to hand in an emergency. You can download the PDF here.
Are you thinking about returning to work? Staff at Worms University of Applied Sciences also have the option of working remotely on a part-time basis. Please check the intranet for details of the options available; you can find the service agreement on remote working here. If you have any questions, please contact the Human Resources Department (SG 1).
If you’d like to access university services from home, you’ll find further information on the Computer Centre and Library websites.
