After studying business administration at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, where he graduated with a degree in business administration (Dipl.-Kaufmann) (specialising in retail management, marketing and the sociology of business), he completed his external PhD there in 1999 on the history of ‘services in economic theory’. 

During this time and in the years that followed, he worked as both a salaried and self-employed management consultant before accepting a post at Worms University of Applied Sciences in 2003, where he holds a professorship in Marketing and Business Administration in the Faculty of Tourism and Transport. He headed this Faculty as Dean from 2007 to 2023. Since January 2024, he has been Vice-President for Studies and Teaching, with additional responsibilities for Continuing Education, International Affairs and Marketing at Worms University of Applied Sciences.

Since 2026, Professor Rück has represented the Rhineland-Palatinate universities of applied sciences on the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for University Admissions.
