eduroam Wi-Fi
Free internet access at Worms University of Applied Sciences and worldwide
The eduroam Wi-Fi network provides members of the university community with free internet access at Worms University of Applied Sciences (and via LAN in the student halls of residence).
The Wi-Fi is available in lecture theatres, the canteen, the library and various outdoor areas, amongst other places.
With eduroam, you can also connect to the internet at numerous participating universities and research institutions worldwide using your Worms University account details.
How do you set up eduroam?
To set up the eduroam Wi-Fi, you will need the easyroam app or the appropriate easyroam installer for your operating system.
The easyroam app is used to set up and manage the certificate required for authentication on the eduroam network (for internet access).
Your authorisation to use the Wi-Fi is granted automatically via your university account. No separate activation is required.
→ You can find the setup guides for Windows 10/11, macOS, Android and iOS on the DFN eduroam/easyroam guidance page.
Important: The certificate for internet access is valid for seven months. If you wish to continue using eduroam, the certificate must be renewed in good time before it expires. The exact validity period will be displayed in the easyroam app once the certificate has been set up.
Help with set-up issues on Windows:
If the following error message appears on Windows: “Cross-loading is blocked by a policy...”, please follow these steps:
- Download and install 7-Zip.
- Use 7-Zip to extract the previously downloaded easyroam_x_x_x.msix file.
- Finally, run the file “easyroam_connect_desktop.exe” in the folder you have just extracted.
→ You can find instructions on setting up eduroam on Linux on the DFN guidance page for eduroam/easyroam.
Help is available here:
- For the Linux NetworkManager, a corresponding easyroam NetworkManager wizard is also available.
- Alternatively, you can use the guide provided by the University of Greifswald.
- Further assistance for Linux is provided by Bremen University of Applied Sciences.
- For selected Linux distributions, you can also use the GUI.
The following guides are available
for internet access via LAN (network or Ethernet cable) in the student halls of residence on Bebelstraße, Erenburgerstraße and Hochheimerstraße:
The easyroam certificate is valid for seven months and must be renewed in good time if you wish to continue using the service.
To renew or reactivate your easyroam certificate:
- Open the easyroam app on the device for which you wish to renew the certificate.
Note for Windows devices: Make sure you are using the latest version of the easyroam app. To do this, open the easyroam app, then close it and restart it. This will download the latest version to your device.
- On a laptop: Select ‘Reinstall profile’.
On a mobile device: First tap ‘Further information’ and then select ‘Reinstall profile’.
The easyroam certificate will then be renewed and the connection to the eduroam Wi-Fi should work again.
Important: Each device requires its own certificate.
For example, if you use eduroam on both your smartphone and your laptop, the certificate must be renewed separately on each device.
- First, update the easyroam app
.- Reinstall the profile as described in “Renewing or reactivating the easyroam certificate”.
- If the problem persists, you can remove the certificate via ‘Revoke profile’ and then set up a new profile.
- Otherwise, uninstall the app and set it up again following the instructions above.
- Restart your device and try again.
Further information on the global eduroam network can be found on the DFN’s German eduroam website and on the international eduroam website.
