Moodle
Moodle is the learning management system used at Worms University of Applied Sciences. The learning platform enables the structured provision of lecture notes and facilitates collaborative interaction between lecturers and students. Exercises help students to gain practical experience of the subject matter. A wide range of applications enables engaging, pedagogically sound course design and self-directed learning in an academic context. Over ninety per cent of courses are available on Moodle.
What requirements do I need to meet?

Where can I get help?
Have you received an email notification titled ‘New login with your Moodle account – Worms University of Applied Sciences’ from noreply-moodle@hs-worms.de?
- This message comes from a new Moodle feature which alerts you that someone using your name has logged in from an unknown device. As this security feature is new, Moodle does not yet recognise the connection between you and your devices. These notifications will disappear after further logins. You will also receive this message if, for example, you log in from a computer lab for the first time, or if you use a different username (if you have one).
Unable to access Panopto videos from within a Moodle course
When trying to access a Panopto video in a Moodle course, you will receive the error message:
“You do not have permission to access this session”You must log in to Panopto using your “HS Worms Moodle” account
Here you will find instructions on how to switch users in Panopto
Backing up, resetting and, if necessary, restoring Moodle courses
Automatically on the specified date
- All Moodle courses are automatically backed up on 28 February and 31 July of each year, at 00:00. If these dates fall on a Sunday, the backup is postponed by one day.
- No automatic reset takes place following the automated backup of all Moodle courses. Unless a procedure has already been defined by your Faculty, you may reset your Moodle courses provided you have the necessary permissions. If in doubt, please contact the IT support team responsible for your Faculty – see ‘Help, Advice and Support’ for further details.
- To restore backed-up Moodle courses, please contact Moodle Support directly by email (moodle@hs-worms.de), providing precise details of the Moodle course (course ID, link to the Moodle course in the production system, location where the restoration should take place, etc.) to Moodle Support.
Manually before the deadline
- Unless a procedure has already been defined within your Faculty, you can also reset (your) Moodle courses in advance and, if necessary, back them up, provided you have the relevant permissions. If in doubt, contact the IT support team responsible for your Faculty – see ‘Help, Advice and Support’ for further details.
- The Data Centre strongly recommends checking in advance whether any new students have already enrolled. You can do this by viewing the course members and checking the last login date. If the last login date was before 28 February or 31 July, you can reset the course and back it up if necessary. Otherwise, you should enquire. There may also be preparatory courses running. Alternatively, you could send a circular email to students on the programme, asking for their understanding that they may need to re-enrol in their chosen courses.
