Digital console/media desk
What do I need this for?
The digital console, or media desk, enables all participants to take part in courses at Worms University of Applied Sciences in a more flexible manner, regardless of their location, and can help to support the digitalisation of teaching. For example, it is possible to invite guest speakers to take part without them needing to be physically present at Worms University of Applied Sciences. Similarly, students who are unable to be on campus – such as those studying abroad – can also take part.
Each digital desk or media table is equipped with the following:
- a webcam with digital zoom and optional software,
- desk microphone,
- an integrated loudspeaker, and
- connection options (HDMI, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort) for transmitting the image to the projector.
The connection between the user’s own hardware (e.g. a laptop) and the webcam, desk microphone and built-in speaker can be made via either USB-A or USB-C. Compatibility with operating systems from Microsoft and Apple is guaranteed.
In addition to the basic version, there are further variants with an additional room microphone (available only in the Senate Hall) and for portable use (available only in the auditorium).
What requirements do I need to meet?
- Room booking (if not already booked)
- Digital consoles and media tables are available in almost all rooms on our university campus.
- Hardware
- You will need the mobile hardware required for the event, such as a laptop, and a University of Worms IT Centre account (for access to) the software application you require.

- Internet access for live streaming
- For live streaming via the internet, you can use the Eduroam Wi-Fi. For larger events, we always recommend a wired LAN connection to the internet with VPN login/VPN client, as restrictions may apply. However, we will need to activate the connection for the duration of the event, and you will require a LAN cable and, if necessary, support from us. If you are interested, please email us at helpdesk@hs-worms.de.
- Test well in advance (!)
- In general, we always recommend testing your desired scenario at least once well in advance and involving the staff responsible for IT support within your organisational unit.
