Admissions procedures for Bachelor’s degree programmes with restricted intake

For degree programmes with restricted admission, Worms University of Applied Sciences allocates places in accordance with a set procedure. The Regulations on the Allocation of Study Places set out the legal conditions for this. They prescribe a specific allocation scheme, in accordance with which we allocate places.

The number of places available on a degree programme with restricted admission is determined by the Capacity Regulation. We publish this in the University Gazette.

Below, we explain the allocation scheme.

Advance quotas

We reserve fixed proportions of the places specified in the Capacity Regulation in advance:

Allocation quotas for the remaining places

Once the advance quotas have been deducted, we allocate the remaining places as follows:

Numerus clausus thresholds

Following each selection process, a so-called cut-off mark is determined. This is also known as the numerus clausus value or NC value. The NC value generally indicates the highest average mark up to which applicants have been offered a place. In addition to the average mark, other factors are taken into account in the selection process.

The NC value is not fixed. The university recalculates it for each degree programme with restricted admission and for each semester. This is only done once all applications have been processed.

The NC value depends on several factors:

No predictions regarding future selection procedures can be derived from these factors. NC figures from previous semesters do not indicate anything about future procedures. For this reason, Worms University of Applied Sciences does not publish NC figures from previous semesters.

Ranking list and waiting list procedure

Once all applications have been received and processed, we draw up a ranking list. On this basis, we select the applicants with the highest rankings and send them an offer of admission. If applicants do not accept the offer, the next applicants on the ranking list will be admitted.

To coordinate the process, we use the Dialogue-Oriented Service Procedure (DoSV) run by the Foundation for University Admissions (SfH). This foundation is also known as Hochschulstart. It coordinates the centralised admissions process for all participating universities.

Lottery procedure for remaining places

If places remain vacant once the process has concluded, we allocate them via a lottery.

Admissions procedures for Master’s programmes with restricted enrolment

For Master’s programmes with restricted admission, the allocation of places follows almost exactly the same procedure as for Bachelor’s programmes. However, there are a few specific features: deviations from the quotas are possible, and additional allocation criteria may apply.

Example: Global Trade Management (MA) and Entrepreneurship (MA)

Special rules apply to these degree programmes:

Another difference: for Master’s programmes, places are not allocated via the Dialogue-Oriented Service Procedure (DoSV), but via the University of Worms’ decentralised allocation procedure.

If places remain available once the process has concluded, we will allocate them by lottery.

Allocation of places on degree programmes with no entry restrictions

There are no admission restrictions for some Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. In such cases, the university does not carry out a selection process based on a ranking list.

If you submit an application and meet the entry requirements, you will automatically be admitted. You can then enrol. The admission criteria set out in the previous sections do not apply here.

The application process is also different: for programmes with no admission restrictions, you do not apply via Hochschulstart, but directly via the University of Worms’ decentralised procedure.
