Climate-friendly universities
Since January 2024, Worms University of Applied Sciences has been participating in the ‘Future Forum: Climate-Friendly Universities’ project. This three-year programme supports the university – through training, consultancy and networking – in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in the short term and implementing a climate protection strategy in the long term.
Project objectives
| To reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10 per cent by 2026
| Development of a comprehensive climate protection strategy
The project supports a total of 15 small and medium-sized universities in Germany on their journey towards greater climate protection. As part of a ‘Whole Institution Approach’, not only teaching, research and knowledge transfer, but also the operations and governance (administration) of the universities are incorporated into the sustainability process.
Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the project is run by netzwerk n e.V., the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development and the University of Vechta. It offers practical support to small and medium-sized higher education institutions across Germany to align their structures with climate protection objectives. Great importance is attached to the involvement of all stakeholder groups and to regional exchange. A key objective of the project is to empower students and actively involve them in the transformation process.
